Rhinoplasty or nose job is a common procedure performed by Dr. Mentz. A rhinoplasty is the surgical procedure of reshaping the nose to enhance its appearance. Surgery of the nose can correct an overly large nose in proportion to other facial features. It can correct the nose width, visible humps or depressions, asymmetry, nostril size and/or the characteristics of the nasal tip. During a rhinoplasty Dr. Mentz may also repair structural abnormalities that impair breathing while cosmetically reshaping the nose (septoplasty).

Dr. Mentz will use computer imaging to help you determine the size and shape you desire. Factors that influence the final results include the structure of your nasal bones and cartilage, the shape of your face the thickness of your skin and your age. Cosmetic nose surgery may be performed on female patients as young as 15 or males as young as 17.
A rhinoplasty can be performed by either the closed method where the incisions are hidden inside the nose or the open method where an incision is made across the narrow strip of tissue that separates the two nostrils called the columella. Dr. Mentz will access nasal bones through this incision where he will move, remove or add bones and cartilage to create the desired shape.
Rhinoplasty Before & After Photos

Depending upon the procedures performed, a splint may be applied to the nose to help maintain its shape. Soft plastic splints may be placed in your nostrils to stabilize the airway and are removed in 5-7 days.
The surgery can be performed as an outpatient under general anesthesia and takes approximately 1-2 hours to complete. Following surgery, patients should plan on staying in bed with the head elevated for the first few days.
After your procedure Dr. Mentz may offer a visit to your home by a plastic surgery nurse, trained to assist in your recovery. Most patients can return to daily activities within 7-10 days following surgery. Exercise and other strenuous activities may be resumed in about two weeks. It is important to avoid hitting or rubbing the nose for approximately eight weeks. Exposure to the sun should be limited for the two months.
Facial cosmetic surgery and particularly a rhinoplasty takes a steady hand, a master of tools and techniques and a bit of an artistic eye. Dr. Mentz’s unique distinction of being the first surgeon in the US to achieve Triple Board Certification from The American Board of Plastic Surgery, The American Board of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery and the American Board of Otolaryngology (Head and Neck) makes him uniquely qualified to perform your rhinoplasty. Many of his patients feel more comfortable knowing their surgeon has achieved this distinctive attribute.
Snoring, Difficulty Breathing
Breathing or snoring problems might be a sign that you are a candidate for surgery of the septum or septoplasty. The septum, which is the dividing wall between the air passages, may be deviated or crooked, causing nasal obstruction. To improve the nasal airway, the shape or position of the septum may be corrected with surgery.
A nasal deformity may be a sign of a more serious medical condition and may be covered by your health insurance, although cosmetic improvement will generally be fee for service.
