What to Expect with Breast Augmentation Surgery:
Women with small or underdeveloped breasts and women who just want to enhance the size of their breasts may choose to have a procedure called breast augmentation (mammoplasty). This procedure involves the surgical implantation of devices designed to increase size and fullness of the breasts. Many women seek not only to improve size by also symmetry and proportionality of the breasts. Many women find that a breast augmentation can increase their self-confidence and self-esteem.
There are currently two FDA approved breast implants to choose from saline (salt water filled) and silicone.
The implant or breast enlargement may be placed under or over the pectoral muscle. If you are having a saline implant inserted the implant will be filled to the desired size after insertion of the empty implant.
Breast Augmentation Surgery FAQ
What are the advantages of saline and silicone implants?
There are advantages and disadvantages to each and vary patient to patient. Dr. Mentz will work with you to determine which type and size implant is right for you.
Where are the incisions made?
Dr. Mentz typically will use a 3/4 inch incision for placement of the implant so that the scar is minimized and barely detectable. These small incisions may be made in the crease under the breast or at the edge of the areola.
