What to Expect with Breast Procedures:
Women with small or underdeveloped breasts and women who just want to enhance the size of their breast may choose to have a procedure called breast augmentation (mammoplasty). This procedure involves the surgical implantation of devices designed to increase size and fullness of the breasts. Many women seek not only to improve size by also symmetry and proportionality of the breasts. Many women find that a breast augmentation can increase their self-confidence and self-esteem.
There are currently two FDA approved breast implants to choose from saline (salt water filled) and silicone.
The implant or breast enlargement may be placed under or over the pectoral muscle. If you are having a saline implant inserted the implant will be filled to the desired size after insertion of the empty implant.
The most common plastic surgery breast procedures include breast enlargement or augmentation , primarily using saline implants, breast lift (mastopexy), and a breast reduction (macromastia). Choosing the Right Procedure for Breast Enhancement
Age, weight gain, weight loss, pregnancy and breast feeding are just some of the many causes of sagging breasts. For women, sagging breasts are a source of embarrassment and one of the many signs that we do not have the body we had in our twenties. Breasts in particular are a symbol of our femininity and sex appeal, so it’s no wonder that breast augmentation procedures have been the most popular cosmetic procedures for more than a decade.
The most common concern is sagging or droopy breasts. There are two types of sagging breasts. If the patient has lost a lot of breast volume, they probably look like deflated balloons, i.e. excess skin with little breast tissue to fill it up. This type of deflated breast can usually be improved with a breast implant alone. This is an ideal solution because it leaves just a very tiny scar hidden in the underarm.
However, some patients still have good volume of breast tissue, but their breats have been pulled down pulled down by gravity. These patients are ideal candidates for a breast lift or mastopexy. If the patient is happy with the current size, this procedure can be done without an implant. The breast lift leaves a scar extending from the bottom of the areola (nipple) to the crease below the breast.
