You’ve heard it before; there’s no magic wand when it comes to cosmetic treatments. Well, this dynamic duo may be the next best thing.
What does it take to make an old face look young again? Part of why we show age in our face is laxity of the skin. Weakened muscles, sun damage and gravity’s pull all cause the skin to wrinkle and sag. Additionally, in our 30s we start producing less and less collagen, the body’s own fountain of youth. This natural protein is responsible for the strength and elasticity of the skin, allowing the tissue to expand and contract constantly without causing damage, keeping skin firm and smooth. Collagen also adds volume, giving the face a youthful, plump look. When we stop producing collagen – around age 30 – we lose this structure and volume, and the skin is less able to spring back in place from facial expressions or tugs on the skin.
So, the problems here are a lack volume for fullness and elasticity to hold shape.
The solution: Ultherapy & Sculptra® Aesthetic.
Ultherapy uses ultrasound technology to promote natural collagen production and create new healthy cells from the muscle layer to the top of the skin. It’s the only non-surgical method that is FDA approved to lift and tighten the skin. It requires only one treatment, though some patients may benefit from a second treatment. Most patients see lifting and toning immediately after treatment, but the maximum results will appear gradually over the course of two to three months.
Sculptra® Aesthetic diminishes facial gauntness and creasing by replacing lost collagen, solving the volume problem. This injectable is administered in a series of three injectable treatments given over the course of a few months. The idea is that its effects build gradually, so it doesn’t have the obvious, over-night change of a facelift. Its maximum effects are typically apparent 4-6 months after the first treatment, and the long-lasting benefits can be seen for up to two years.
In summary, Ultherapy tightens what you already have and Sculptra adds volume. Building from the foundation up, ACPS patients are recommended to undergo an Ultherapy treatment first to stimulate natural collagen production and lifting of the skin, then use Sculptra to fill in areas that still lack volume. This combination is great for patients considering a face lift, but aren’t quite ready yet. The results of Ultherapy and Sculptra could put off a more invasive procedure for a couple of years, but a face lift is still a great option for patients looking for more dramatic results.
The Aesthetic Center for Plastic Surgery is pleased to be offering Ultherapy treatments, as of June 2012 and has consistently provided great results with Sculptra for years. For more information or to schedule an appointment, call our office at 713.799.9999.
